Holiday in this charming beachfront period cottage, located 300 metres from Hampton Pier on the western side of Herne Bay. It’s a pleasant mile-long walk along the coast path to the centre of town for shops, cinema, restaurants, theatre and various sporting facilities. Continue on past the clock tower over the downs a further 3 miles east, to reach Reculver Towers and Roman Fort. Or explore in the opposite direction; Whitstable is 4 miles east, with several lovely beaches, a castle, a museum and a gallery. You may prefer to head inland; 8 miles south lies the historic City of Canterbury and there are two countryside nature reserves within 10 miles. And with the railway station less than a mile from your cottage, you have the option of sightseeing by train, as well as by road or on foot.
The property is entered via a flight of external steps from the seafront path. A bright lounge/dining room looking out onto the beach has a blend of antique and contemporary furnishings, tongue and groove wall panels and painted beams. An ornamental fireplace provides an attractive focal point, with a dining table and chairs positioned in the bay window. The contemporary country kitchen offers an additional table for two and double doors onto the sun-trap patio. Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom facing the garden and a shower room with WC. Two twin bedrooms are found on the upper floor; one overlooks the garden and has a wash basin, the other has sea views and an en-suite bathroom with WC — both have timber beamed ceilings.
The property benefits from a fenced front patio and a walled/fenced rear patio, where you’ll find a wrought-iron bistro set and an outside shower for washing off the sand and salt. Steps from here lead to a terraced, sloping garden edged with flowerbeds, with a bench on one level providing wonderful sea and dramatic sunset views across the local roofs. Additionally, there’s a charming veranda with seating and a table for two.
