Holidays in Whitstable

One of Kent’s most visited areas and famous for its annual Oyster Festival, the charming coastal town of Whitstable is located just five miles north of the cathedral city of Canterbury. A working harbour with a plethora of restaurants, bohemian cafes and stalls, you will not be stuck for places to sample the locally caught fish and seafood, especially the renowned oysters. This delicacy has been collected in the area since Roman times and comes into its own during the annual Oyster Festival when thousands of visitors from all over the world descend. Whitstable Harbour is a great place to watch fishing boats returning with their catch, and you can sample some of the freshly caught shellfish from one of the little stalls dotted along the seafront.

The town’s vast stretch of shingle beach is lined with colourful beach huts and is perfect for long walks and sunset swims - an ideal destination for a coastal holiday. For those who like a little bit of history and culture, the 18th century castle and gardens are well worth a visit and there is a strong shopping and arts culture in the town. Within driving distance of Canterbury, Dover and Margate, as well as the historic Cinque Ports towns with their spectacular monuments and castles, you will always find something interesting to do on a holiday to Whitstable.
